The Scottish Government confirmed today Highland and Moray are being placed into level one which will allow sport fans back into stadiums as of Monday.

However clubs in Aberdeenshire are still not permitted to allow fans into stadiums due to the region being placed into level two.

The Highland League is scheduled to start on November 28 and as things stand 11 clubs, including Wick Academy, would be permitted to allow fans into their grounds.

But six Aberdeenshire clubs, Deveronvale, Formartine United, Fraserburgh, Huntly, Inverurie Locos and Turriff United would not be allowed to admit supporters.

Highland League secretary Rod Houston says clubs are meeting to discuss everything that would be required to allow the league to kick off as scheduled.

“We are pleased Highland and Moray are in tier one and it reflects people in these areas have been compliant with the requirements and I see it as a degree of reward,” he said.

“We understand why Aberdeenshire is in tier two. But we’ll try arrange a set of circumstances for all clubs to take part with spectators in attendance.

“We will need time to prepare, but it is good news that fans can return in tier one areas.

“What we need to find out are the details and arrangements clubs have to make and protocols to submit.

“There is a degree of work to be done between now and the 28th if that remains the date the clubs want to start.”
