Thurso will be looking to build on their excellent win at Golspie when they take on St Duthus in the North Caledonian League this weekend.

The Vikings picked up their first points of the Division One campaign as a second-half double from Sean Campbell secured a 3-1 victory at King George V Park.

Manager Stevie Reid missed the game as he had other commitments, with Scott Davidson and Tom McKenna taking charge in his absence.

"It was a great result," Reid said. "It's always a fiery encounter down there. By all accounts it could have been 4-1, as Cameron Montgomery missed a good chance.

"Sean Campbell is back up the road as well and he made a difference – he scored two crackers.

"He was based in Glasgow so when things started kicking off he moved back up the road as he can work from home."

The result was enough to lift Thurso off bottom spot in what is shaping up to be a fiercely competitive division.

Looking ahead to the trip to face St Duthus, Reid said: "It'll be another tough, tough game away to Tain – it always is.

"We'll have to see how James McLean is – he missed out last week through injury. I don't know how he is going to be."

Reid is delighted to have enlisted the help of former Wick Academy boss McKenna, who parted company with the Harmsworth Park club in February.

"We've got Tom in helping with training and coaching," Reid said. "He was missing football, so the time was right for him to come back and get involved. He is a great man to have."

Thurso's trip to Golspie came just three weeks after the Sutherland side won 3-0 at the Dammies on the opening day of the season.

Innes Mackintosh gave Thurso the lead after eight minutes only for Colin Macrae to equalise shortly before the hour mark.

Campbell restored the Vikings’ advantage with a quarter of an hour remaining and added another five minutes later to make sure of the points.

Invergordon moved six points clear at the top of Division One after defeating Orkney 2-0 at Recreation Park. Both goals came in the second half, Scott Houston giving the Easter Ross side the lead in the 56th minute before a Niall Sinclair own goal nine minutes later.

Saturday's North Caledonian League fixtures – Division One: Halkirk United v Invergordon; Orkney v Golspie Sutherland; St Duthus v Thurso.

Division Two: Alness United v Loch Ness; Bonar Bridge v Inverness Athletic; Scourie v Nairn County "A".
