Caithness United under-14s find ruthless streak to see off Dingwall in Highland Youth League fixture at Naver
Caithness United’s under-14s played their latest Moray Firth Youth Development League match at Naver on Sunday against Dingwall, eventually finding a cutting edge to win 5-0.
The home side started well, retaining a lot of possession but just without having that clinical streak in the final third.
It took until the 20th minute for the deadlock to be broken, with a superb long-range effort from Ruaridh Kean leaving the keeper no chance.
United appeared to gain some confidence from going ahead as they were stringing passes together better, and looked more of a threat in their opponent’s box, before Ross Mackay underlined their dominance by scoring his team’s second of the game.
Duncan McGee then put Caithness 3-0 up with a fine shot from just outside the penalty box, before Ross Mackay doubled his tally after a fine passing move throughout the team which ended in Mackay sweeping the ball into the net.
United continued to move the ball around the pitch sharply, and just before the full-time whistle was blown, Will Munro finished off a successful afternoon for the Caithness squad.
After the game a happy under-14s coach Sean Moodie said: “That was certainly one of our better performances of the season, and on another day we could have scored a couple more goals too.
“That, coupled with the fact that we didn’t allow Dingwall many opportunities, was very pleasing.
“I am also delighted with the style of play the boys played out there this afternoon too.
“We have been working a lot on playing the ball out from the back, being brave, retaining possession whilst getting the ball high up the park and creating goal chances. I felt we did that a lot today, and long may that continue.
“I’d also like to thank Dingwall for making the trip up north, and wish them all the best for the remainder of the season.”
