AT times it was bright sunshine, but the freezing wind reminded everyone that it was still winter at Highland Motocross Club’s round two held at Tain earlier this month.

Despite the weather there was a good turnout of riders, although those from south of Perth wisely chose to give this round a miss because of road conditions.

However, the return of quad riders was very welcome and the first event for these heavy machines really helped soften up the track for the other competitors.

First to race was the 65cc contingent and Thurso’s Troy Anderson quickly set the pace. He continued in the same vein to win all three races in a fine demonstration of his skills.

Wick’s Jason Leask is still quite new to the delights of Tain.

He made a good showing of his talents in the 85 big-wheel events but was unfortunate in one race to come off his bike in a part of the track with no spectators nearby, so he was delayed in getting help to get the heavy machine up and restarted.

However, despite that setback he still finished fourth overall for the day.

The adult B competition is always intense and definitely not for the faint-hearted.

Certainly it didn’t deter Halkirk’s Mark Sutherland as he really went for it and earned a second, third and fourth place to finish third overall.

The next meeting will be held by the Highland Club at Tain on Sunday, March 11, and the following weekend, on the 17th and 18th, Tain will host round one of the Scottish Motocross Federation’s youth and adult championships.
