Thurso swimmer is Scottish schools champion
Thurso High School’s Tom Armitage took gold in the 200m backstroke at the Scottish schools championships.
He had won the silver medal in the same event last year, but managed to go one better to become Scottish champion.
He was able to lead from the start and managed to hold off a strong field.
Tom wasn’t the only Thurso swimmer to get on the podium at the meet, with Emily MacDougall and Edward Mills achieving silver medals.
Emily, a former Scottish Junior Academy swimmer, gained her silver – also in 200m backstroke – having taken bronze last year.
Edward, swimming in the finals for the first time, also achieved a silver in the closely contested 200m fly event.
Thurso High School provided a total of seven swimmers for the finals (Esme Waller qualified but was unable to attend).
Jed Armitage narrowly missed out on a medal in the 100m back and 400m individual medley, finishing fourth in both events, having been seeded seventh.
Breaststroke specialist Aiden Williamson finished sixth in the 200m event and seventh in the 100m, while Craig Campbell finished eighth in the 100 fly, having been seeded 11th.
Grace Campbell also finished in the Scottish top 10, coming in ninth for her 200m fly.
Miller Academy was also represented at the meet. Morven Finlayson achieved an impressive one-second PB and fourth place in the 50m free, having been seeded seventh, while Keira Mackie made her debut in the 50m backstroke.
