THURSO coach Asa Sinclair says the team are still looking to finish higher in the North Caledonian League than they did last season.

The Vikings take on Clachnacuddin A at The Dammies on Saturday afternoon where victory would lift them above the Lilywhites into 10th place.

Last season, Thurso finished second bottom of the campaign in 11th place on 16 points. They are currently having a poor season with only six points from their 18 matches so far.

They are only two points above Bunillidh Thistle at the bottom of the table on four points. Thurso have three of their last four league matches of the season at home and Sinclair is confident they can get victory on Saturday.

He said: “We have started to get good numbers in training in the last few games. We have four of our last five games at home. We certainly hope it is a game we can get three points from. We are definitely looking to get a few places up the league and look for an improvement from last year which we set out to do from last season.

While Sinclair was disappointed with the defeat against Halkirk United, he said it was a respectable performance against a team who are top of the league.

Sinclair said: “We played alright and we set out to frustrate Halkirk.

“They scored quite early but managed to keep it 1-0 until half time.

“Unfortunately they got an early second that killed the game off. We threatened a few times in the first half with Iain Mackay and Andrew Brims.

“Other than that there wasn’t much talking points from our end.

“They are so strong, we just had to try and frustrate and losing 3-0 wasn’t the worst result.”
