Thurso competitors bring home medals from schools meet

THURSO High School recently sent a team of 24 swimmers to the annual Highland schools meet in Inverness.

The team ranged from first to fifth-year pupils. Despite the early start, the youngsters were very enthusiastic and keen to do their best.

Jordan Bain was the sole high school swimmer in the 12-and-under age group. He managed to secure two silver medals for 50m fly and freestyle.

Craig Mackay and Lee Lockhart also competed in this group, both doing well to come fifth in the 100m fly and fifth in the 100m back respectively.

The 15

The 17-plus females had one swimmer – Ellie Spencer who won silvers for 100m breaststroke and 400m individual medley.

Shaun Gray, Shaun Davidson and Mark Budge swam in the 17-plus male section. They all did well with Shaun Gray comfortably securing two golds for 100m fly and 200m free. Shaun Davidson won silvers for 100m and 200m breaststroke, while Mark received a silver for 200m free.

Overall the Thurso High team did exceptionally well, returning north with eight gold, 13 silver and two bronze medals. Now the swimmers will have to wait to see if they qualify for the Scottish finals to be held in January.
