It has been a busy month of competitions at Thurso Bowling Club.

On August 7 a fun day Helter Skelter was arranged by Joan Elder. It was a round-robin pairs for all the Helter Skelter regulars.

Winners were Liz Rhodes and Trevor Henderson, beating Derek Rhodes and Alan Doull.

The following Saturday the Pairs League took place. It involved two leagues of seven teams from which a final league of four played to decide the winners.

Allan Swanson and Leah Taylor came out on top, followed in second place by Ross Cowan and Ian Mackay, with third going to John McGill and Ali Gray. Brian Cormack and Stephen Rollinson were fourth.

August 21 saw the McIntyre four-bowl round-robin pairs. This competition was out of the hat and resulted in a gents versus ladies final, with again some great bowls played by all.

The final was played in good spirits with a full clubhouse watching. The victors were the ladies, Janet Sinclair and Fiona Macleod, beating Charlie Smith and Harry Cormack.

This Saturday is finals day, with a different format for this year only.

The semi-finals of the ladies' and gents' championships will be played at 1pm. The finals of the ladies, gents and beginners will start at 4pm.

Ladies' semi-finalists: Lynne Swanson v Leah Taylor; Lorna Cormack v Joan Elder. Gents' semi-finalists: Henny Henderson v Brian Cormack; Ross Cowan v Charlie Smith.

Beginners' championship final: Nigel Mackenzie v Billy Husband. To be followed by ladies' and gents' championship finals.
