Some stormy weather on Saturday put paid to the scheduled women’s and men’s December medals, but there was still some action on the fairways of Reay this week.

Malcolm Thomson has been enjoying some of a purple patch of late, and he maintained his fine form to dominate the week’s proceedings.

First up was the latest round of the North Point Distillery Senior Stableford competition and Thomson reigned supreme after an impressive round of 76 – which included a birdie at the 17th – gave him an excellent score of 40 points.

No fewer than four players finished on 36 points, with countback required to decide the placings. A fine inward half saw Colin Struthers take second, while four threes during his round helped Sandy Cumming to third.

A steady performance saw Alan Sparling finish fourth, and Hugh Millar came fifth after a solid round.

In the overall standings Thomson leads the way on a six-round aggregate score of 212, ahead of nearest challengers Fred Groves on 206 and Alex Anderson on 203. Sandy Chisholm on 200 and Stuart Greig on 196 complete the top five spots.

Despite a handicap cut of two shots, Thomson returned to winning ways in the latest round of the Winter League Stableford competition in breezy conditions. A winning tally of 33, from a round of 78 which included a birdie at the 16th, saw him maintain his winning streak.

Solid performances from David R Craig and Jack Johnstone saw them take second and third places respectively on 31 points. Ian Ross claimed fourth on 29, with Pauline Craig fifth on 28.

This Saturday will see players competing for the rescheduled women’s and men’s December medals, while on Sunday they will be able to play in the next round of the Winter League Stableford.
