YOUNGSTERS have been enjoying the latest in a series of LTA Tennis for Kids sessions in Thurso.

Courses are run throughout the UK at tennis venues and schools to introduce young children to the sport.

Kids aged from five to 11 took part in six daily one-hour sessions from July 22-27 at Thurso Squash, Tennis and Racketball Club in the town’s Millbank Road.

These followed on from the first set of sessions earlier in the summer.

The courses also offer young leaders from the high school the opportunity to gain valuable experience in working with young children.

The Co-op again provided us with strawberries and ice cream so we finished off the week as if we were Wimbledon players.

Local coach Carole Cameron sees these sessions as the first step to getting youngsters involved in playing racket sports, and in particular tennis, now that there are such good facilities at the club as well as at the public tennis courts at Olrig Street.

She said: “We were lucky with the weather and the kids enjoyed the sessions. The Co-op again provided us with strawberries and ice cream so we finished off the week as if we were Wimbledon players.

"This was the last planned session for this summer, but parents whose children might be interested next year should send details of their children's interest and ages to me and I will let them know if and when the next courses will take place.”

Carole’s email address is cameronce@hotmail.com

During the summer term Carole held a series of sessions with pupils at Farr Primary School.
