THE Reay Golf Course ladies’ course record of 71, which stood for nearly 10 years, has fallen to 16-year-old Eleanor Tunn.

Her round of 69 in the recent Reay Junior Open overtook the previous record, which has stood since May 2002.

Eleanor, who is a four handicap player and member of the Scottish Academy Squad, got off to a good start with an eagle at the second.

She dropped a shot on the next for an outward half of 34, one under par.

Further dropped shots at the 10th and 11th holes were countered with birdies at 14 and 16 for an even-par back nine and a one-under-par total 69.

Evan Sutherland, head coach of Reay Golf Club’s six-strong junior coaching team, said: "It is a tremendous achievement considering the course is playing at its most difficult at this time of year, with mistakes from tee to green being severely punished.

"Hopefully this will be an incentive to other young girl golfers in the county to continue playing."
