LAST season’s top two teams in the Wick and District Pool League went to battle on Monday night in a four-hour marathon match.

Camps “2” travelled out to Lybster to face Bayview “1” in what was always going to be a close match.

After the singles frames neither team could be separated and it stood at 3-3. The next frame saw James Riach complete a total clearance to put the Camps side 4-3 ahead, but battling Bayview took the next two frames to go within one frame of victory.

Ryan Carter, Bruce Honeyman and Riach combined well in the trebles and Carter completed a six-ball clearance to level the match at 5-5. After a long tactical deciding frame, it was Alec Thomson who showed great composure to clinch the match for Camps “2”.

Blackstairs “1” got back to winning ways after battling to a 6-5 victory over Camps “1”. George Smith had a fine match, completing a total clearance and leaving his opponent with seven balls, but it wasn’t enough to deny the Blackstairs side the win.

Crown “1” and Blackstairs “2” remain undefeated as they easily brushed aside Queen’s and Seaforth Club respectively. James Dow notched up a fantastic total clearance for the Queen’s.

The other match in division one saw the Commercial comfortably defeat FSC “1” 7-4.

Mountain Dew “1” came from behind to defeat FSC “2” 6-5 in an exciting match in division two. Sinclair Bay remain top after crushing Crown “2” 10-1.
