Another dry Saturday saw a slightly later start than usual for Thurso Bowling Club's Construction Triples but this by no means diminished the enthusiasm of the teams involved.

One of the first two games went to a nail-biting extra end. Having clawed their way back from 14-1 down to 14-all, Lorna Cormack, Henny Henderson and Julie Knapp forced their opponents Lynne Swanson, Allan Swanson and Fergus Silverwood to an extra end.

As the crowd watched intently, Cormack and company had three bowls around the jack holding the game in their hands. But Lynne had other ideas and thwarted the comeback with her last bowl.

The Swanson/Silverwood charge continued to the final where they played against John McGill, Fiona Macleod and Charlie Smith.

It saw excellent bowls by both teams. The score remained close until the Swansons, aided by their lead Fergus Silverwood – playing for only the second time in about two years – started to dominate and won with eight shots in hand.

This Saturday (July 31) is Pairs Sets day at the Thurso green, with Allan Swanson going for the double.
