Stuart Swanson was again on good form in Caithness Cycling Club’s weekly 10-mile time trial to clock 25 min 11 sec, just two seconds off his season’s best, with Alistair Miller in second place.

Gary Angus posted his best time this year by 14 seconds on an evening with an unfavourable east wind and a temperature of 13C.

Times: 1 Stuart Swanson, 25 min 11 sec; 2 Alistair Miller, 26.06; 3 Gary Angus, 28.18; 4 Alasdair Washington, 28.45; 6 Phil Cartwright, 30.17.

Alistair Miller has now overtaken Roger Broughton at the top of the Handicap League but competition is extremely close with just six points separating the top three.

Leading positions: 1 Alistair Miller (37 points); 2 Roger Broughton (35); 3 Stuart Swanson (31); 4 Gary Angus (27); 5 Martine Hughes (26).

On yet another poor night, four hardy cyclists took part in Wick Wheelers’ latest 10-mile time trial.

With a headwind on the outward leg, times were slower for everyone, although Derek Fraser came within 25 seconds of his season’s best for second place.

Times: 1 Danny Miller, 24 min 28 sec; 2 Derek Fraser, 27.19; 3 Charlie Mackay, 30.55; 4 Lisa Coghill, 33.17.
