David A Craig comes out on top of Red Tee Stableford competition at Reay Golf Club ahead of December Medals this weekend





Some better weather saw golfers flocking to the Reay links to compete in the latest round of winter fixtures.

Bright skies and a tricky wind from the south-west greeted players on Saturday in the Red Tee Stableford competition, with some fine scoring on show.

A hat-trick of birdies at the seventh, ninth and 16th holes, coupled with a spectacular eagle at the 17th, saw David A Craig top the standings on a tremendous tally of 41 points.

Stuart Greig claimed second place on 39 points with his best work done during a fine outward half of 36 strokes.

Lee Parnell was also on the birdie trail, taking third place on countback on 38 points, with his birdies coming at the fourth, 12th and 16th holes.

Steve Efemey birdied the fifth on his way to 38 points, a total which was also matched by Alex Anderson who birdied the sixth.

In the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford competition Malcolm Thomson took the victory after a fine round of 79 gave him a winning tally of 37.

Contrasting halves of 44 and 38 saw Fred Groves finish in second place on 36 points, while a steady round saw Sandy Cumming take third place on 35.

Donald Mowat, helped by a birdie at the 16th, and Malcolm Clasper who performed solidly, both finished next best on 34 points.

This weekend will see the women and men competing in their respective December Medal competitions on Saturday, while Sunday sees the latest round of the Winter League Stableford competition scheduled.
