Sixteen tries for Krakens in second runaway win
Two games into their Caley North 2 season, Caithness Krakens have still to face a serious challenge.
They registered a second runaway win on Saturday on their trip across the Pentland Firth to play Orkney Dragons.
The islanders have lost a clutch of experienced campaigners over the past couple of years and currently are in rebuild mode.
Having routed Moray 128-7 in their opening fixture, the Krakens ran in 16 tries in their 96-3 victory at Pickaquoy.
Coach Mike Flavell said: “Orkney are going through a transition just now and have a lot of younger players who do not have a lot of experience.
“But, to be fair to them, they stuck in and scrambled quite well. They were definitely better than Moray.”
The hosts, however, struggled to cope with the pace and intensity of the Krakens’ attacks.
Flavell said: “We were getting the ball to the edge and our offloading and support play was really good. Our ruck speed was also very good for most of the game.”
On the debit side, he said his side’s defence remained largely untested.
Emmie Smith and Tamzin Rosie each scored four tries, with Caitlin Harvey getting three. Devin Stuart, Megan Douglas and Justine Mackay each crossed once, while Carly Erridge scored two tries and eight conversions.
The Krakens now have a break until their next game away to Turriff on October 12.
