Six hit maximum in round 11 of Caithness shooting league

Round 11 of the Caithness Small Bore Rifle Association league had six shooters hitting the maximum score of 100 – D Simpson (Wick Old Stagers), J G Campbell (Halkirk), D Bremner (Watten), L Thomson and W Copland (both Banff & Macduff) in Division One, and K Sutherland (Dallas) in Division Two.

Halkirk "A" are still in top spot in Division One with a one-point advantage over Old Stagers. Halkirk’s victory over Pentland saw the latter slip to five points behind the leaders.

Old Stagers "B" are top of Division Two, leading the Bogey by four points. In Division Three, with Halkirk "B" losing to the Bogey, Clach "A" cut the deficit to two points.

Stirkoke "C" remain unbeaten in Division Four, and are four points clear of Banff & Macduff "B".

Westfield "B" now have a four-point advantage at the top of Division Five after beating the Bogey score.

Junior Individual League Division One sees I Simpson (Wick Old Stagers) and D Mowat (Pentland) equal on points but Simpson has the better aggregate. R Levack (Halkirk) is only a point behind.

Junior Individual League Division Two has J Taylor (Westfield) unbeaten at the top, with R Sutherland (Halkirk) only two points behind. S Campbell (Halkirk) lies in third place.

Division Two: Wick Old Stagers "B” 8 beat Dallas 24. Individual scores – Wick Old Stagers: G Sutherland 1, A W Paul 2, S S Nicolson 2, L Macdonald 3. Dallas: K Sutherland 0, G Sutherland 5, N Sutherland 8, J Anderson 11.

Orkney 18 beat Dingwall 25. Individual scores – Orkney: B Spence 2, D Sinclair 4, A W Purchon 4, C Duncan 8, Dingwall: B Macintosh 4, R H Meiklejohn 6, R C Meiklejohn 6, H Meiklejohn 9.

Bogey (18) beat Watten "B" 124. Individual scores – Watten: G Bremner 3, B Mackay 5, B Thomson 16, D Thomson Jnr 100.

Division Three: Westfield “A” 15 beat Pentland “B” 36. Individual scores – Westfield: M Mackay 3, G A Mackay 3, M Sutherland 4, M Mackenzie 5. Pentland: J Coghill 7, P Gates 8, A Cowe 9, W D Mowat 12.

Clachnacuddin “A” 21 beat Stirkoke “B” 28. Individual scores – Clachnacuddin: S Bunn 2, S Stanyer 6, G Smith 6, W Allan 7. Stirkoke: G Henderson 4, J M Sutherland 7, R Mackay 7, I Gunn 10.

Bogey (22) beat Halkirk “B” 35. Individual scores – Halkirk: G G Levack 4, S Yuille 6, T Hawes 9, S Blackwood 16.

Top score in Division Three was 98 shot by S Bunn (Clachnacuddin).

Division Four: Stirkoke "C" 27 beat Pentland “C” 45. Individual scores – Stirkoke: G Cameron 3, J Cameron 6, D G Henderson 8, J Hendry 10. Pentland: W D Steven 8, Dan Mowat 11, A Cormack 12, R Steven 14.

Banff & Macduff “B” 34 beat Wick Old Stagers “C” 45. Individual scores – Banff & Macduff: J Lorimer 5, M Zugaj 6, J Ross 7, L G Thomson 16. Wick Old Stagers: A Tait 9, A Harper 11, C Ronaldson 11, C Herry 14.

Nairn 35 drew with Bogey (35). Individual scores – Nairn: D Smith 4, M Maclennan 7, I Macpherson 11, S Murray 13.

Top score in Division Four was 97 shot by G Cameron (Stirkoke).

Division Five: Halkirk “C” 38 beat Clachnacuddin “B” 45. Individual scores – Halkirk: R Levack 3, G Campbell 11, S Campbell 11, R Sutherland 13. Clachnacuddin: N Macdonald 5, D Reid 9, J Matheson 15, R Macintosh 16.

Westfield “B” 44 beat Bogey (52). Individual scores – Westfield: C Mowat 7, D Macaskill 8, A Jappy 11, L Calder 18.

Stirkoke “D” 141 beat Pentland “D” 400. Individual scores – Stirkoke: G Hendry 5, D Henderson 12, B Foubister 24, NCR 100. Pentland: NCR 400.

Top score in Division Five was 97 shot by R Levack (Halkirk).

Junior League Division One – Individual scores: R Levack (Halkirk) 5 beat C Mowat (Westfield) 9; I Simpson (Wick Old Stagers) 8 beat Bogey 16; D Mowat (Pentland) 11 beat S Richard (Pentland) 100.

Best score in Division One was 95 by R Levack.

Junior League Division Two – Individual scores: J Taylor (Westfield) 9 beat A Bremner (Halkirk) 100; R Sutherland (Halkirk) 12 beat S Campbell (Halkirk) 18; L Taylor (Westfield) 20 beat Bogey 25.

Best score in Division Two was 91 by J Taylor.

Stirkoke range to host Portland Bowl final

The final of the Portland Bowl will be held at the Stirkoke range on February 15 with Halkirk "A", Stirkoke and Wick Old Stagers "A" and "B" teams competing in a shoulder-to-shoulder competition for the trophy.

Qualifying results are shown below from two cards shot by each competitor with scores shown as points dropped from 100.

Wick Old Stagers "A" 10 beat Pentland 18. Individual scores – Wick Old Stagers: H Simpson 0 & 0, D Simpson 0 & 0, B Young 1 & 1, S Nicolson 4 & 4. Pentland: R L O Brown 0 & 2, G Begg 1 & 3, D Mowat 2 & 4, P Richard 3 & 3.

Halkirk "A" 16 beat Westfield 30. Individual scores – Halkirk: J Fraser 0 & 1, R B Campbell 1 & 2, J G Campbell 1 & 4, W A Campbell 3 & 4. Westfield: G A Mackay 1 & 3, M Mackay 1 & 3, M Mackenzie 4 & 5, M Sutherland 6 & 7.

Stirkoke 23 beat Watten 66. Individual scores – Stirkoke: I Sutherland 0 & 4, G Robertson 1 & 4, S Webster 2 & 4, R Innes 3 & 5. Watten: G Bremner 3 & 7, B Mackay 4 & 9, D Thomson 8 & 12, D Thomson jnr 11 & 12.

Wick Old Stagers "B" 27 beat Halkirk B 39. Individual scores – Wick Old Stagers: A W Paul 1 & 1, S S Nicolson 1 & 4, G Sutherland 4 & 5, L Macdonald 3 & 8. Halkirk: S Blackwood 2 & 5, G G Levack 3 & 7, T Hawes 5 & 6, S Yuille 4 & 7.

The final will consist of each competitor returning two consecutive cards. There will be unlimited sighting shots on the first card but no sighters at all on the second card.

There will be no time limit on either card, and in the event of a tie the use of graduated gauges will determine the trophy winner.

Covid mitigations to be adhered to will be as a minimum but not limited to a negative lateral flow test within the last 24 hours, and track and trace information to be provided on arrival. Face masks are to be worn except when on the firing point. Hand sanitiser is to be freely available.
