Singles success for Liam at Scottish Schools Badminton Union tournament
Caithness junior badminton squad player Liam Sinclair was a singles winner and a doubles runner-up in the Scottish Schools Badminton Union 2014 Age Group Tournament held at Wishaw.
Liam, the number one seed in the boys’ singles, topped his group after winning both his games and dropping only 14 points. This placed him in the quarter-finals of the main draw where he played Caelan Simpson, from Lanarkshire, with Liam winning 21-5, 21-1.
His semi-final opponent was Matthew Gajri (Lothian) and Liam came out on top 21-4, 21-14 to secure his place in the final.
Liam secured the winner’s trophy by beating Joshua Gajri (Lothian) 21-16, 21-12.
Liam paired up with Cole Morrison from the Borders in the boys’ doubles and they topped their group by winning all three matches.
In the main draw semi-finals they faced Casey Brown and Daniel Soflano, with Liam and Cole winning 22-20, 21-12.
They came up against the number one seeds Joshua Gajri and Matthew Gajri in the final, with Joshua and Matthew winning 21-11, 21-12.
Liam, from Wick, was 10 when the tournament took place and has since turned 11.
