Sinclair Bay pair are surprise winners of memorial cup at Wick

The Ray Sinclair Memorial Cup men's competition was won by Wick and District Darts League second division players Chris Scott and Eean Ronaldson (Sinclair Bay), who defeated the first division pair of Ronnie Plowman and Damon Meikle (Seaforth). A KEISS duo were surprise winners in this week's Ray Sinclair Memorial Cup competition held by Wick and District Darts League.

Chris Scott and Eean Ronaldson, who play for Sinclair Bay in the league's second division, got the better of first division pair Ronnie Plowman and Damon Meikle (Seaforth) in a sudden-death decider in the men's event.

The ladies' competition saw Kara Sutherland and Freda Perry win yet again for the Queen's Hotel, defeating the on-the-night pairing of Ann Wells (Seaforth) and Alison Tait (Queen's).

Ray's sons Gary and Graeme along with his grandson Craig attended the competition in Harper's Bar and presented the awards.

Maximums were hit by David Miller (Smiddy Inn), Martin Campbell (Smiddy “2”) and Kevin Macgregor (Seaview).

There were ton-plus checkouts from John Gunn (Harper's), 137; Damon Meikle (Seaforth), 104; Graham Crowe (Smiddy Inn), 104; and James Howden (Seaview), 100.

Kara Sutherland (Queen's) hit 140 three times and Alison Tait (Queens) had a 117 checkout.

Men's results: Division One – Quarter-finals: K Donald & B Davidson 2, A Harper & D Miller 0; R Plowman & D Meikle 2, M Nicolson & R Campbell 1; K Macgregor & J Howden 2, G Crowe & R Thain 0; D Taylor & S Tait 2, S Redmond & G Plowman 0.

Semi-finals: R Plowman & D Meikle (Seaforth) 2, Kevin Donald & Billy Davidson (Queen's “2”) 1; David Taylor & Stewart Tait (Harper's “B” and Seaview) 2, Kevin Macgregor & James Howden (Seaview) 1. Final: Plowman & Meikle beat Taylor & Tait 2-0.

Division Two – Quarter-finals: B Oag & L Miller 2, I Saint & M Sinclair 1; J Gunn & S Hutton 2, J Oag & M Campbell 1; C Scott & E Ronaldson 2, D Harper & S Mackay 1; C Sinclair & G Sutherland 2, H McBeath & K Shelley 1.

Semi-finals: John Gunn & Steven Hutton (Harper's) 2, Brian Oag & Liam Miller (Smiddy “2”) 1; Chris Scott & Eean Ronaldson (Sinclair Bay) 2, Craig Sinclair & Graham Sutherland (Queen's “2”) 0. Final: Scott & Ronaldson beat Gunn & Hutton 2-1.

Grand final 1001 play-off: Chris Scott and Eean Ronaldson beat Ronnie Plowman and Damon Meikle.
