Senior Stableford success for Harness with 39-point tally

Another busy week at Reay saw action in the women’s, men’s and senior sections.

In the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford action, a birdie at the ninth and some excellent form on the other par three-holes saw Graham Harness take the win on 39 points.

A birdie at the tough 10th hole helped Willie Steven secure second place on 36, a tally matched by Alex Anderson who claimed third after a round of 82. David A Craig won the nearest-the-pin prize from the sponsors thanks to a fine tee shot on the final hole.

Heather Campbell has enjoyed some good form over the winter months and she prevailed in round six of the women’s Stableford competition with an excellent 35 points in cool and breezy conditions.

A good inward half helped Nicola Campbell to second on 34, with Carol Cameron completing the podium places after a solid performance gave her 33 points.

Jacqui Greig was next best, a point further adrift on 32. In the overall eclectic standings Pam Bain leads the way on 58.2, ahead of Pauline Craig on 60 and Carol Paterson on 60.6.

Performance of the week went to Wayne Mowat who fired birdies at the third, fifth, 10th and 14th holes to win the men’s sweep on a fantastic 42 points following a round of 74. Steady performances saw Dave Gisbey take second on 34 points, with Murdo Macdonald a further point back on 33.

Countback was required to determine the winner of the latest round of the winter league Stableford competition after four players finished tied on 34 points. In the final analysis it was Stuart Greig who prevailed after a round of 84.

A birdie at the 15th helped Jacqui Greig seal second spot ahead of Ronald Mathieson and Pete McCartney, who birdied the sixth hole.

This Saturday will see the men competing for the McRobert Thistle Trophy, while on Sunday the women and men will be back in Winter League Stableford action.

Reay ended up as team winners in the North Golf Winter Alliance season, while Thurso’s Laura Durrand finished as top lady competitor.

Reay’s Tom Ross was the scratch winner in the Thurso fixture with a score of 67.
