THIS week saw the first round of Wick and District Darts League's knockout cup competitions.

There were nine games played – eight men's matches and one ladies' tie, as Keiss side Sinclair Bay defeated visitors Seaview from John O'Groats.

Meganne Shearer won for Seaview, while successful Sinclair Bay players were Claire Thain, Ann Begg and Abigail Duncan, who hit the ladies' highest score with a 140.

Smiddy Inn had a good win without reply against Harper's, the second division leaders, but there was severe disappointment for the other Thrumster sides as all three lost out.

Castletown found the Seaview too hot to handle, losing out on home soil. Geordie Bain beat Stewart Tait 3-0 for Castletown's solitary point.

Kevin Macgregor, Calum Shearer and James Davidson – who hit a maximum yet again – won for the visitors. Kevin and Calum won the all-important pairs game against Ali Simpson and Donnie Farquhar.

The Queen's had a double win, while in the match of the night at Harper's the Seaforth club got revenge for their league defeat.

Martin Nicolson with two 18-darters defeated Ronnie Plowman 3-2, but David “Tucker” Bain levelled it with a 3-0 win versus John Burns in 16, 21 and 17 darts.

Another legend from the past, John Macphee, beat Alan Nicolson 3-0 to put the Seaforth in front only for David Taylor to level the match, hitting a 16-darter also. The home side buckled at this point and Seaforth took both pairs without reply.
