Scorries struggle to single goal win
Scorer: Weir (23)
BARRY Wilson blasted his side's poor performance against Fort William saying that they could not afford to take any game for granted if they were to have any chance of winning the Highland League.
In the poorest home performance of the season so far, The Scorries eventually picked up the three points in a hard fought victory against a plucky Lochaber side.
Fort William almost took a shock lead after five minutes when Andrew McLean sent a cross from the right wing which beat the Academy defence to find Lewis Campbell who forced James More to use his legs to block a goalbound shot.
Wick Academy responded when Ross Allan played a neat one-two with Gary Weir on the edge of the box forcing Kyle Robertson to parry the shot out for a corner.
Academy eventually broke the deadlock after 23 minutes from a free kick when Sam Mackay was hacked down by Michael Gillespie 30 yards from goal. Gary Manson laid off a short pass to Mackay who chipped the ball into the box for Gary Weir to nod into the net.
Fort William could have equalised in the 55th minute when the home defence were found guilty of standing back to allow Andrew McLean to take a shot from 20 yards which skimmed past the post.
Wick struggled to string any passes together throughout the match but ten minutes from time Lukasz Geruzel thought he doubled the home side's lead when he managed to chip the ball over the goalkeeper from 12 yards but Gillespie managed to rush back in time to clear the ball off the line.
