Top Joes were once again on the wrong end of a double-digit score as they crashed out of the Eain Mackintosh Cup at the hands of Wick Groats.

Being bottom of CAFA Division Two and having received a 13-0 hiding from Wick Thistle recently, the last thing they needed was to be drawn against a Groats team that has been the county's top dogs for the past seven years.

Groats crushed the Thurso side 12-1 with hat-tricks from Mark Macadie and Sandy Sutherland.

Christopher Taylor netted a double while Grant MacNab, Scott Risbridger, Ryan Campbell and Brandon Sinclair also hit the target.

Top Joes – with number of regular players still unavailable – replied via Shaun MacDonald not long after Groats had scored their 10th.

Staxigoe United also hit the goal trail as they put their recent Highland Amateur Cup wrangles aside to demolish Division Two side Thurso Pentland 9-0.

On target for Andrew Banks's team were Marc Coghill, Chrissie Green, Hasheem Bremner, Bryan Reid, Grant Aitkenhead, Kyle Henderson (2) and Martin Banks (2).

Pentland United moved into the last four as they held off a spirited challenge from underdogs Wick Thistle to win 3-1.

Murray Mackintosh and James Murray put United two goals up. Ross Davidson pulled one back for the second division leaders before Murray again pounced to seal the win for the Dunnet men.

Joining them in the semi-finals are Lybster who also had a 3-1 win against Castletown.

Billy Cairns (2) and Robbie McIvor netted for the Cow Park side, with James Harris bagging a consolation for the visitors.

Eain Mackintosh Cup – semi-final draw: Lybster v Pentland United; Wick Groats v Staxigoe United (ties to be played on Monday, June 17).
