Caithness United under-13s had a runaway 11-0 victory over their Invergordon counterparts on Sunday in their second match of the Moray Firth Youth Development League.

The game was played in sunny, mild conditions at Invergordon's Recreation Grounds.

There were two goals apiece for Owen Bain, Scott McDonald, Matthew Mackay and Jed Armitage, with the others coming from Morgan Kennedy, Sam Reid and Josh Sutherland as the young Caithness outfit produced long spells of impressive football.

After putting in a superb shift all over the park, Stevie Esson was given the accolade of being named the coaches’ man of the match.

Meanwhile, Wick Academy under-15s kicked off their Highland Youth League campaign with a fine 5-0 win at Keith at the weekend.

It is a particularly young squad with only four players left from last season.

Academy started the game well, keeping possession and creating numerous chances, and they went in front with a great run and finish by Lucas Reid.

The second was similar but down the other side with Scott Levack finishing in style. Scott scored his second and Wick’s third with a clever finish inside the box.

The second third followed the same pattern as the first, with Wick playing some good possession football from the back to the front. Aidan Miller and Andrew Brims were thwarted by some excellent saves.

Reid scored his second with a good strike from just inside the box. Keith had their first shot on target late in the second third but Leo Shearer made a good save.

The back four of Finlay Marshall, Lewis Gill, Ethan Kevill and Elliot Cormack, with Matthew Aitkenhead playing a holding role, looked very composed.

Academy added a fifth with a cool finish inside the six yard box by Kieran Macgregor.

Sean Pearson was unlucky not to score with header that went inches over the bar. Taylor Swan and Carter Mackay did well for their first game.

Coach John Suttar said: “We would like to thank the parents that travelled the long distance.”
