Renfrew success for Wick junior badminton player

Caithness Junior Badminton Club’s Liam Sinclair travelled to Renfrew to compete in the under-11 David Lloyd Renfrew tournament run by West of Scotland Badminton Group.

The 10-year-old from Wick reached the semi-finals of the singles and came out on top in level doubles with partner Aarav Sinha from Aberdeen.

In the singles, Liam, seeded 3/4, topped his group after winning all three of his matches comfortably. He took first 15-3, 15-4, following it up with a 15-5, 15-3 victory before a 15-4, 15-5 success in his last group match.

Having secured his place in the play-offs, Liam received a bye into the quarter-finals as a result of topping his group. He won 11-15, 15-13, 15-13 to reach the semis where he faced number two seed Sumanth Prakash. Liam lost 15-3, 15-8 in a hard-fought contest.

In the level doubles Sinclair and Sinha were seeded number one. They topped their group after winning all their matches to secure a semi-final against the number two seeds Luke Jobson and Akilan Valanraj.

Sinclair and Sinah prevailed 15-13, 15-0, then in the final they won 15-12, 15-8 against Advik Nagar and Sumanth Prakash.
