Reay players bring silverware home

ELEVEN couples recently competed for the ladies’ County Pairs at Reay with all four Caithness clubs represented.

The competition was a fourball better-ball format and home players Pam Bain and Mo Mackay triumphed with an excellent nett score of 61.

Su Hawes, of Reay, and Alison Campbell, of Thurso, were second with 63, with Lybster pairing Lorna MacMillan and Basia Sandecka third with 64.

Results from Reay ladies’ section: Bain took the Scratch Club Championship on the 18th green in an exciting final with Eleanor Tunn. Pat Owen won the Handicap Club ?Championship, beating Alison Ross in the final. Karen Campbell and Carole Cameron won the Isauld Pairs in a very close final with Morag Mackay and Bain.

Third-round club championship: Tricia McDonald, 87 (16) 71. Thistle Brooch: Pam Bain, 86 (12) 74. Royal Hotel Mixed Foursomes: T. McDonald and Fred Groves.

July Medal: Carole Cameron, 83 (14) 69. Stuart Rosebowl: C. Cameron, 85 (14) 71. SLGA Brooch: C. Cameron, 83 (14) 69. August Medal: C. Cameron, 82 (13) 69.

Reay Golf Club is once again offering a winter membership – £60 for the period October 1 to March 30.

Some of the Reay ladies meet regularly on a Thursday morning throughout the winter, weather permitting, and compete for monthly medals and the Winter Eclectic at weekends.

Any ladies taking up winter membership, beginners or handicapped players, are welcome to join and should contact Carole Cameron on 01847 871245 to be kept in touch with what is going on.
