Reay hosted the America Cup, an annual triangular competition played between the ladies of Thurso, Wick and the home club.

The unique structure of the tournament involves one representative from each club playing in a three-ball and competing against their playing partners in a match-play format.

Five matches were played in glorious sunshine on Saturday, and after some keenly contested ties it was the home team who emerged victorious with a score of 13 points. Wick were edged in to second place on 11 points, with Thurso third on six.

Club stalwarts Pam Bain and Carol Paterson were key contributors to the Reay tally, bringing home four points apiece. They were backed up by Eleanor Tunn, who scored a solid three points, and the in-form Tricia Macdonald who bagged two points.

On this occasion, club champion Mollie O’Brien was unable to add to the Reay tally but was understandably a bit rusty given her focus of late has been on studying rather than golf. Next year, Reay will be looking to defend the trophy at Thurso Golf Club.

Those not playing in the cup competed in a friendly Stableford competition, and it was encouraging to see 17 ladies playing in this. Lora-Jane Kelly, who joined Reay as a beginner last year, scored an impressive 37 points to top the standings and continue her great progress in the sport.

The gents' April Medal was won by Willie Paton with a fine nett 67 after the 32-handicapper posted a round of 99. Four players posted rounds of nett 70, with Ian Ross taking second on countback after a solid round of 81 which included a birdie at the 13th.

Joe Wilson was third following his round of 82, with Andy Mowat finishing fourth after a steady round of 76. Donald Mowat took fifth after a birdie at the ninth helped him to a round of 83.

The ladies' Summer Stableford competition is under way, and round one saw Eilidh Paterson top the standings with an excellent tally of 38 points. Rebecca Munro birdied the 13th on the way to 34 points and second place, ahead of Pauline Craig who took third place on countback in front of Carole Cameron and Carol Paterson after all three bagged 31 points.

Round two was won by Alison Ross with a fine tally of 38 points, ahead of Maggie Fecitt on 36. Lora-Jane Kelly continued her fine form to take third place on 35 points, ahead of Carol Paterson on 34 and Eilidh Paterson on 32.

The first round of the seniors' Stableford Eclectic competition saw new member David Snashall produce a spectacular round of 71 for 43 points. A single birdie at the 14th was offset by a bogey at the second and a double bogey at the 12th for a gross round of two over par.

Alistair Gunn, helped by a birdie at the 10th, took second place on 38 points ahead of Malcolm Clasper on countback.

Round one of the Dunnett Cup saw Tim Hawes finish in the lead after a steady round of 84 was good enough for nett 68. Alan Paul lies in second place after his round of 82 gave him a nett 69. James Meiklejohn is also handily placed in third after his round of 79 also gave him a nett 69.

Evan Sutherland achieved a hole in one at the par-three fifth hole in the Dunnett Cup – the fourth ace on the course over the past couple of months.

The second and final round is this weekend, and this also doubles up as the first qualifying round for the gents' club championship.
