Reay Golf Club: Single-shot victory for Greig in September Sweep





Misty conditions did not deter golfers playing in the men’s and women’s competitions at Reay on Saturday.

The ladies’ September Sweep was won by Jacqui Greig with a fine round of 91 for nett 71. Halves of 45 and 46 were good enough to secure a single-shot victory over a chasing pack led by Pam Bain, who finished on nett 72 after a round of 82 which included a birdie at the 16th.

Carol Paterson and Nicola Campbell were next best after both finished on nett 73, with an excellent birdie at the ninth providing the highlight of the round for Campbell.

In the Donald Campbell Trophy a sizzling round of 79 for nett 65 saw Steve Efemey take the silverware, with a birdie at the 14th helping him along the way.

A birdie at the sixth helped Lee Malcolm to second place after he fired the lowest gross score of the day, a fine 74, to give him a nett tally of 68.

Three players finished on nett 69, with a birdie at the fifth helping Andrew Taylor to his tally with a round of 80. Cammie Ross with a round of 78 and John Nicolson with a round of 79 were the players to match Taylor’s nett score.

In the penultimate round of the North Point Distillery Senior Stableford summer competition, Colin Struthers took the victory on a day of glorious sunshine with an impressive 38 points.

David Gisbey and Sandy Chisholm were next best on 36 points, with Willie Williamson taking fourth on 33.

In the overall standings Sandy Chisholm looks to have an unassailable lead on an eight-round aggregate score of 295, ahead of Pete McCartney on 285, Jock Eunson on 282 and Colin Struthers on 281.

In the third round of the autumn nine-hole competition, a fantastic score of 20 Stableford points saw Rodney Grant secure victory ahead of Iain Dunnett and Andy Bain who both finished on 17.

This Saturday sees the women competing in their September Ball Sweep and medal winners’ competition, while the men will be in action in the Nuvia September Medal.
