Cammie Ross, runner-up in both the men’s January Medal and Sunday’s round of the Winter League Stableford competition, tees off at the fifth hole.

After a couple of weeks of inactivity due to the January weather, golfers were back in competitive action on a sunny Reay course.

The men’s Nuvia January Medal was claimed by Andy Bain after an impressive round of 77 for nett 66. A solid front nine of 41 was followed by a sizzling inward half of 36 to see him take the win by a single shot.

A birdie at the 14th helped Cammie Ross to second place after he carded a round of 77 for nett 67.

A trio of players, David A Craig, Alex Anderson (who birdied the 15th) and Leslie Malcolm, finished a stroke further back after finishing on scores of nett 68. A brace of birdies at the sixth and 14th helped Lee Parnell to the best gross score of the day, a fine round of 75.

Heather Campbell took the women’s January Medal with a fantastic nett 66. After getting off to a fast start, a three at the ninth hole saw her reach the turn in 45, and a solid inward nine allowed her to claim the prize by a three-shot margin.

A par at the tricky first hole set the tone for Jane Mackenzie’s round, a fine nett 69, which saw her secure the runner-up spot.

Some steady golf around the turn saw Rosalind McQuaker take third on nett 71, with Sarah Meiklejohn and Sylvia Struthers next best after they both finished on nett 72. Meiklejohn had the distinction of shooting the lowest gross score of the day, a solid round of 83.

In the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford action, a crucial birdie at the 17th saw Alex Anderson take the win on countback ahead of Dave Gisbey after both finished on 38 points. Ian Ross completed the podium places on 36 points, while Hugh Millar bagged the nearest-the-pin prize from the sponsors.

There was a stacked leaderboard in the latest Winter League Stableford action, with no fewer than four players finishing on 34 points. After the numbers had been crunched, Jacqui Greig’s steady round gave her the win.

A birdie at the 14th saw Cammie Ross take second place, while a birdie at the fifth helped Donald Bain to third. Despite two birdies, at the seventh and ninth, Stuart Greig had to settle for fourth spot.

This Saturday will see the women competing in round four of their Winter League Stableford competition, while the men will be in Winter Eclectic action. On Sunday all players will be able to play in the latest round of the Winter League Stableford competition.
