Reaction was needed, says Scorries' Sean Campbell
Wick Academy's five-star performance against Lochee United was the best possible reaction to the recent 8-0 Highland League defeat to Banks O' Dee, according to Sean Campbell.
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder set up the equaliser and scored the second in the Scorries' impressive 5-1 victory on Saturday. It was his first goal since signing for the club in November 2020.
“All five of the goals were well worked,” Campbell said. “It's the stuff we've been working on in training, the patterns of play we've been wanting to see.
“You look at our performance a couple of weeks ago against Banks O' Dee and we had to show a reaction today – and it was the right reaction. Some of the one-touch football was good to see and it has been a long time coming, to be honest.
“In the last couple of weeks we have been short of bodies. But when we've got good numbers there and we've got the full complement, and you've got boys like Mark Munro coming off the bench and scoring goals, we've got goals coming from everywhere and we had five different scorers today.”
Manager Gary Manson was delighted to see Campbell getting on the scoresheet for the first time.
“It has been a long time coming so it's good to get that monkey off his back,” Manson said. “He does play in an attacking role but goals aren't all you get from Sean – you get an absolute shift every time he's on the pitch.
“Hopefully that will give him the confidence in front of goal and he'll score a few more for the club now.”
