TWELVE pairs of bowlers gathered at Lybster to compete in the Mabbutt Open Pairs on Sunday.

Played in a round-robin format of three games of 10 ends with the best two teams going on to the final, the finalists were both from Golspie Bowling Club.

The pair of Mark Airey and Jean Johnson were the only team to complete three wins in the round-robin and fellow club members Mike Irwin and Doug Johnson won through by winning the last match of the three 13-4 to beat the Lybster pair of Malky Sutherland and John Cullop.

In the final, Irwin and Johnson went 3-1 up after the third end and never looked back, eventually triumphing 12-4.
