Treble for Mackay and double for Durrand in open county badminton championships

There was a treble for Shona Mackay and a double for John Durrand in Caithness Badminton Association's open county championships held in the Wick games hall.

Mackay defeated Beckie Gunn 21-9, 21-8 to win the women's singles.

In the women's doubles, Mackay teamed up with Eilidh Paterson to beat Beckie Gunn and Morven Coghill 18-21, 22-20, 21-17 in a closely contested final

Mackay and Mark McCoustra proved too strong for James Falconer and Eilidh Paterson in the mixed doubles, winning 21-12, 21-11.

Durrand defeated McCoustra 21-13, 21-13 in the final of the men's singles.

The men's doubles saw Durrand join forces with Matthew Robertson to beat James Falconer and Tom Ross 21-14, 21-11.

The championships took place on Saturday, January 29.

There were five entries in the men's singles and three in the women's singles. Six pairs entered the men's doubles, with four pairs each contesting the women's and mixed doubles.
