Toby Bracey came out on top in the Winter Open at Harpsdale Fishery Park, rescheduled to early March because of adverse weather throughout February.
Competitors were greeted with lovely conditions and fishing was fairly brisk from the off, with William Thomson landing three within the first 15 minutes yet still not managing to pick up the award for first fish landed. He ended his first 30-minute session with four rainbows.
The fishing remained steady until the midway point, with most of the competitors still in the running for first place.
Lunch came at a good time for Toby Bracey and James Simpson, with both landing in quick succession after the break.
Winter Open results: 1 Toby Bracey, Bower; 2 James Simpson, Halkirk; 3 Richard Burt, Wick. Heaviest fish: Robert Dunbar, Wick. First fish landed: Allan Macleod.
The Autumn Open was held in November, with the Wick side of the county dominating the prizes on a bright but blustery day.
Mike Steven eventually pipped Fraser Wilson Snr for the title. Richard Burt had the heaviest fish and the first fish landed was by Duncan Williamson, both Wick.
The Summer Open is scheduled for June and it is hoped a novice day will be held on August 6 with a few experienced fishers present to go over the basics with anyone interested in taking up the sport.
Anyone interested should message Harpsdale Fishery Park.
