Pentland edged to victory in silverware battle.

THE season’s first shoulder-to-shoulder competition for the Wilson Cup took place in the Halkirk range when five teams – Watten, Wick OS, Westfield, Stirkoke and Pentland – met to vie for the silverware.

Each of the six team members, shooting from 20 yards, were required to return one card and the team with the best aggregate score (ex 600) would receive the silverware.

Similar to previous start-of-season competitions, the scores were rather mixed with only a handful of competitors finding their true form.

Pentland, with 20 points dropped, edged to victory by a single point to lift the trophy with individual scores (ex 100) of: R.L.O. Brown 98, M.J. Green 97, D. Mowat 97, P. Richard 97, A. Cowe 96, W. D. Mowat 95.

Wick Old Stagers, dropping 21 points, were runners-up with scores of: J.R. Sinclair 99, D.W. Miller 98, G. Ronaldson 97, G. Begg 95, D. Ronaldson 95, F. Spence 95.

Third place, with 22 points dropped, went to Stirkoke – G. Robertson 97, P. Sutherland 97, J. Fraser 96, D. Henderson 96, R. Innes 96, I. Sutherland 96.

The 99 from John Sinclair (Stagers) was the best score from the 30 cards fired in the competition.
