Paton's superb 42-point haul in latest round of Reay Winter League Stableford

Round 12 of the Winter League Stableford was played in breezy conditions over the Reay links, but the wind did not deter the competitors with some excellent scores recorded.

Willie Paton finished at the top of the standings with a superb haul of 42 points after a round of 83 made up of halves of 40 and 43.

Bruce Mackay had to settle for second place on 40 points after a fine round of 77 which included a birdie two at the short fifth hole. Ian Ross completed the podium places on 39 points after a great round of 76 which included birdies at the sixth and 18th holes.

John Nicolson birdied the sixth on his way to a score of 38 points and fourth place, while David A Craig took fifth place on 37 points.

In the overall Winter League Stableford standings Kenny Farmer Jnr retains top spot with a six-round aggregate score of 225, ahead of David R Craig on 206 and Kenny Farmer Snr on 200.

In the latest action in the Senior Stableford competition, Dave Snashall finished on the top of the tree with a total of 39 points, with a brace of quick-fire birdies at the 12th and 14th holes helping him on the way to the win.

Mike Halliday also managed a birdie at the 12th on his way to a score of 38 points and second place, while the trio of Ian Ross, Pete McCartney and Alex Anderson finished a point further adrift on 37.

Ross managed a birdie at the sixth during his round, while Anderson also managed a single birdie at the 15th, but both were trumped by McCartney who managed a hat-trick of birdies at the sixth, 12th and 15th holes.

In the overall Senior Stableford competition Kenny Farmer Snr remains the man to beat on a six-round aggregate of 223, ahead of Malcolm Thomson on 221 and Murdo Macdonald on 218.
