The summer golf season is now officially under way at Reay with the traditional curtain-raiser, the Captain versus Vice-Captain's match, played on Saturday in glorious conditions.

An excellent turnout from members old and new meant there a total of nine matches were played, and it was the vice-captain's team, led by Colin Paterson, who prevailed over captain Andy Bain’s charges by a score of 5.5 to 3.5.

On Sunday the gents were competing for the Ward Trophy and the High Handicap Trophy.

In the Ward Trophy, for players with a handicap of less than 18, John O’Brien triumphed with an excellent score of 38 Stableford points following a round of 73 which included a birdie at the 14th hole.

The in-form David Mackay finished in second place after a solid round for 36 points, with Donald Mowat taking third place on 35.

In the High Handicap Trophy for players with handicaps of 18 and above, it was Graeme Fryett who came out on top with a fine haul of 35 points, pipping Jack Johnstone who finished in second place on 34 points. David R Craig completed the podium places, taking third place.

Meanwhile, frost and snow meant the final round of the seniors' winter competitions could not be played. However, this did not prevent the overall winners being declared, with Alex Anderson bagging the senior Eclectic competition with an excellent score of nett 65.

Malcolm Thomson took the senior Stableford trophy with a fine six-round aggregate score of 228.

This Saturday the club hosts the RJ McLeod Open Scramble for teams of three, which can be ladies, gents or mixed, while on Sunday gents will be competing in the George Couper Challenge.
