Richard Macadie was full of praise and gratitude towards the organiser of his testimonial season, Colin Stewart.

The 32-year-old attacking midfielder capped off his big year as he helped the Scorries beat an Aberdeen XI 2-1 at Harmsworth Park.

Colin chaired the testimonial committee which set up a number of events over the past 12 months including a golf day at Wick Golf Club, a horse-racing night in Reiss hall and a sportsman's dinner at the Norseman Hotel which had former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie and singer/comedian Frank Robb as special guests.

And it all culminated with a match against Aberdeen, the club Macadie supported as a boy.

Macadie said: "I would like to thank Colin and everyone else involved on my testimonial committee.

"He's put in a lot of effort to make all the events a success and I'm grateful for all the hard work that Colin and the committee have put in.

"I've enjoyed every minute of it here and I've another three years left on my contract to go.

"There was a novelty about the game as Tom McKenna left the team selection and tactics up to me. It is a hard task picking the team and I don't envy Tom or any other manager having to decide who starts and who doesn't."

McKenna enjoyed his rare back-seat role and paid tribute to Macadie.

He said: "Richard has been a fantastic servant to the club and he has deserved this night in recognition of that.

"As for the game itself, it was nice to enjoy it and let someone else worry about picking the team.

"I thought the boys did well considering the last time they met up was that final league fixture at Fort William.

I didn't do much training for this one. I'm only just back from a stag do in Portugal.

"It was nice to see Gary Weir back in a Wick jersey. I hope he's open to the idea of coming out of retirement – even just for home games – because he led the line superbly when he came on."

Unfortunately for McKenna, it look like the Scorries legend will not be coming back.

Weir said: "As I've said in the past, I'm available if there's an emergency but I've a young family and I'm happy spending time with them – time that would be limited if I made a comeback.

"It great to be out there for this one. I've known Richard since school and we've been mates ever since. It did feel like old times when he set me up to score what proved to be the winner.

"I've only played a handful of games since retiring [two years ago] but I didn't do much training for this one. I'm only just back from a stag do in Portugal."

Aberdeen youth coach Paul Sheerin admitted his young Dons were unable to match their first-half display after the restart.

He said: "We passed the ball well and created chances in the first half. However, Wick got their equaliser before half-time and that lifted them.

"I wouldn't say we were deflated by that, but we didn't pick up the intensity that we had in the first half and didn't create as many chances in the second.

"However, regardless of the result, this was Richard Macadie's big night and myself and everyone else at Aberdeen Football Club would like to congratulate him."

Macadie is Academy’s record scorer with 195 goals in 527 competitive appearances and he is hoping to pass the 200 mark next season.
