A DECISION on the outcome of the 2019/20 North Caledonian League campaign is unlikely to be made until the end of June.

When all Scottish football was postponed on March 13 due to the virus pandemic, Invergordon were top of the nine-team division, four points ahead of second-placed Thurso with both clubs having three league matches remaining.

Three other clubs – Golspie, St Duthus and Orkney, all with fewer games played than the top two – were also in with a fighting chance of pipping the Easter Ross side for the title.

In a statement on Monday, the league said: "The NCFA office-bearers, along with consultation with its members clubs, have decided that any immediate decision on the outcome of season 2019/20 shall be deferred until June 30, or such a time before this, should the SFA/SPFL response group confirm a date for resumption."

Thurso manager Stevie Reid said: "First and foremost I hope everyone can get through this and get back to normal, whatever normal is, and we can start thinking seriously about the football then.

"If we need to wait to play our last three league games, and our North Caledonian Cup semi-final, from June onwards we'll just have to take it from there. But it is a really tough time, we totally appreciate that."
