Nominations are sought for Caithness Sports Council awards
The search is on to recognise the 2024 high-flyers in the far north sporting scene.
Caithness Sports Council (CSC) is seeking nominations from its member clubs of individuals who have gone the extra mile to shine in their chosen activity.
Up for grabs are the county’s sportsman, sportswoman, para sportsperson and junior sportsperson (18 and under) awards.
Once again, CSC will also be choosing someone to receive the Caithness service to sport award which is put up by its parent body, Scottish ClubSport (SCS).
This is designed to turn the spotlight on one of the small army of volunteers in the county who work tirelessly behind the scenes to run and develop their club. It could be in the role of a coach, official or committee member.
This year’s award will be handed over by the 2023 winner, Ken Nicol, of Pentland Canoe Club, who is a director of SCS.
Nominations for the five categories have to be submitted to imgrant9@gmail.com by Monday, November 25.
The winners will be presented with their awards immediately before CSC’s next committee meeting in North Shore Surf Club’s base at Thurso East on December 10.
Last year’s winners, in addition to Ken, were golfer Laura Durrand (sportswoman of the year), badminton player Mark Mackay (sportsman of the year), swimmer Tom Armitage (junior sportsperson of the year) and 12-year-old Kayden Malcolm (para sportsperson of the year) from Caithness Riding for the Disabled Association.
Kayden was unable to attend CSC’s annual prize-giving last December because he was unwell, so his award was presented at a later date.
