Thurso Bowling Club's opening day was well attended, with the first jack thrown by honorary member Lorna Cormack to get the 2022 season under way.

A helter-skelter followed, with Linda Morrison having the first bowl to touch the jack. She won a free drink at the bar.

The first competition of the season was on April 30, the Andy Campbell Mixed Rinks, with a good turnout. The final featured Lily Wilson, Danny Taylor, Paul Watson and Henny Henderson against Liz Rhodes, Trevor Henderson, Stephen Rollinson and Lorna Cormack.

It looked as though Lorna's team were cruising but Henny and company had other ideas. They kept in touch up to the sixth end when Lorna's team picked up five shots.

Henny and company were not done yet, though, and fought back. On the 11th end they were 17 shots to nine down. Henny sent up his last bowl and his team were on for a seven-shot gain.

However, Lorna had a bowl to go. Henny couldn't watch as Lorna sent her last bowl up and saved her team six shots.

It finished 21-11 for Lorna and company.

The gents' Allan Cup will be contested this Saturday.
