Saturday saw a great entry of 48 golfers competing in pairs in a fun 1893 Old Links competition over a 12-hole course at Reay.

The holes played were designed to replicate as near as possible the original course that was first laid out in 1893, which led players into some familiar and some very unfamiliar territory.

Players competed using the Stableford scoring system, with a combined tally for each pair used to determine the winners.

After the numbers had been crunched, Alex Anderson and Fred Groves sealed a narrow victory with an impressive 47 points. Brent Munro and Dougie Thorburn took the runners-up spot on 46, with Willie Steven and Andrew Taylor completing the podium places on 46.

The seniors were also in action in the latest round of their North Point Distillery Winter Stableford competition.

Despite a non-scoring hole at the eighth, some otherwise steady play saw Stuart Greig top the leaderboard with an impressive 38 points.

A strong run over the closing holes saw Willie Williamson take second on 35, with Kenny Farmer Snr and Sandy Chisholm, aided by a birdie at the 12th, sharing third place on 33 points.

This weekend will see the men and women in action in Winter League Stableford action.
