Munro and Parnell keep up fine form with mixed pairs triumph
Another busy week at Reay began with some red-hot scoring in the Royal Hotel Mixed Pairs competition.
Rebecca Munro and Lee Parnell, who have both been in fine individual form of late, combined brilliantly to fire birdies at the second, fourth, sixth and 15th, posting a round of 66 for nett 63 and the win.
Laura Bain and Donald Mowat were also on the birdie trial with a pair at the fourth and 13th helping them to second place after a round of 72 gave them nett 65.
Carol Paterson and Steve Efemey finished third after birdies at the fifth and 15th gave them a round of 72 for nett 66.
In the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford action, Fred Groves maintained his fine form to top the standings with an impressive haul of 38 points, following a round of 80 which included a birdie at the sixth hole.
David A Craig finished second on 37 points, with Pete McCartney and Sandy Chisholm, helped by a birdie at the sixth, finishing a point further back on 36. McCartney did have the consolation of bagging the nearest-the-pin prize on the day.
In the overall standings Jock Eunson remains the man to catch on an eight-round aggregate score of 276, ahead of Stuart Greig on 265 and Sandy Chisholm on 260.
In round eight of the women’s Summer Stableford competition, club captain Carol Paterson fired birdies at the second and 10th on her way to a winning score of 38 Stableford points.
Pam Bain, who birdied the second, and Heather Campbell were edged out on countback after both also finished on 38 points. Rosalind McQuaker and Alison Ross were next best after both posted solid scores of 36 points.
There were two rounds contested in the ARC Summer Cup in the week. A birdie at the 15th helped Malcolm Thomson win round eight on 34 points, ahead of Pete McCartney on countback.
Rodney Grant and Andy Bain – who was helped by a birdie at the fifth – both finished a point back on 33.
Round nine was won by Bruce Mackay after a solid round helped him to 36 points, which was good enough to edge out Cammie Ross and Stuart Greig, who birdied the fifth, on countback.
Lee Parnell, helped by a birdie at the 13th, and Malcolm Thomson who birdied the fifth, were next best on 35.
This weekend will see the men competing in the Nuvia July Medal, while the ladies will play in their Summer Marathon competition over 27 holes.
