Mowat and Wilson take Texas Pairs in spectacular style

In the latest winter season action at Reay, Wayne Mowat and Joe Wilson produced a spectacular performance to win the Texas Pairs competition after a round of 65 for nett 60.

Their round, which included 14 pars and birdies at the sixth, 14th, 15th and 17th holes, was good enough to seal victory by a margin of three strokes.

Murdo Macdonald and Colin Munro birdied the sixth and 12th and secured a rare eagle at the 13th to take second place on nett 63 following a round of 69. David R Craig and Dave Snashall birdied the 13th on their way to a round of 70 for nett 64 and third place.

In the first round of the ladies' Winter League Stableford competition it was Amanda Snashall who prevailed with an excellent score of 35 points. Sarah Meiklejohn and Alison Ross were next best after both carded rounds of 32 points.

Lora Jane Kelly and Eileen Manson were on 31 points, with Manson bagging a birdie at the short fifth hole during her round.

Rounds three and four of the gents' Winter League Stableford competition were high-scoring affairs, with David R Craig birdieing the 13th on his way to a winning score of 40 points in round three. Andy Bain birdied the sixth on his way to 37 points and second place.

Doug Mackenzie managed a brace of birdies, at the fourth and sixth, on his way to 36 points and third spot. Kenny Farmer Jnr also managed 36 points to take fourth place on countback.

However, Farmer Jnr did not have to wait long for his moment of glory at the top of the podium after he won round four with an excellent score of 43 points, helped along the way by birdies at the fourth and 14th holes.

Donald Mowat produced a steady round to claim second place on 38 points, while a trio of players – Kenny Farmer Snr, Andy Bain and Colin Munro – finished a further two points adrift on 36 points.

The latest round of the seniors' Winter Stableford also saw some high scoring, with Murdo Macdonald prevailing with an excellent tally of 41 points. Sandy Chisholm birdied the sixth and eighth holes on his way to 40 points and second place.

Malcolm Thomson produced a run of eight straight pars on the back nine on his way to 39 points and third place, with Billy Moore finishing a point further back on 38.
