Miller hits breathtaking checkout for Smiddy Inn

Smiddy Inn skipper David Miller produced a breathtaking 155 checkout as his side beat Harper’s “B” in Wick and District Darts League.

Martin Nicolson won his singles legs in 18 and 19 darts but went down 2-3 to Richard Thain.

This was Martin’s second consecutive 2-3 defeat, having lost to Ronnie Plowman the previous week. Martin was unbeaten last season.

Graham Crowe was in the Smiddy side and they look strong.

Other names of note include the Seaforth Club acquisitions of David “Tucker” Bain and John Macphee as they beat Thurso’s Park Hotel.

The Seaview look to be back on track with a second consecutive 7-1 win, this time against Castletown. Geordie Bain defeated James Howden 3-0 for the away side.

Rab Edwards’ team won the Queen’s Hotel derby, with Kevin Donald the best for the losers.

In the second division, Smiddy “2” surprised Smiddy “3”.

The Sinclair Bay look to have a formidable line-up. Chris Scott, Mark Thain, Eean Ronaldson and Benjy Mackay tore Harpers “C” to shreds with Willie Webster the best for Andy Cormack’s side.

The ladies had a singles tournament in the Camps Bar. Freda Perry won at a canter, defeating Alison Tait 3-0 in the final

Losing semi-finalists were Ann Wells and Kara Sutherland. Quarter-finalists were Julie Harper, Trish Mackay, Janet Banks and Jade Jones.

Freda hit the first ladies’ maximum of the season and the quickest leg of the week with a 16-darter. Ann Wells, Kara Sutherland, Alison Tait and Freda all hit 140, while Marion Brightwell had the highest outshot on 65.
