Medal double makes it a weekend to celebrate for Craig household

A spectacular eagle three at the long par-five fifth hole helped David R Craig to glory in the men’s December Medal in the latest action at Reay.

After a solid drive and a well-placed second shot, Craig holed his approach shot with a pitching wedge to secure the eagle. This helped him to a winning round of 84 for nett 66 and victory by a margin of four shots.

Stuart Greig took second place following a round of 84 for nett 70, with a birdie at the sixth helping him along the way.

Willie Steven also carded a round of 84, made up of matching halves of 42, to complete the podium places on nett 72.

Fine halves of 39 and 38 helped Lee Parnell to the best gross score of the day, a round of 77 which gave him a nett 73 and fourth place. Murdo Macdonald matched Parnell’s tally of nett 73 to finish in fifth spot.

Pauline Craig made it a weekend to celebrate in the Craig household after she bagged the women’s December Medal following a solid round of 91 for nett 73.

Pam Bain took the runner-up spot following a round of 85 for nett 75. Helen Gisbey completed the podium places on nett 78, with Jane Mackenzie and Sylvia Struthers taking fourth and fifth places respectively.

In the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford action, Malcolm Thomson maintained his remarkable winning streak to post an excellent score of 39 points following a fine round of 75 which included a birdie at the seventh hole.

A round of 80, made up of halves of 39 and 41, saw Donald Bain take second place on 37 points.

A rare birdie at the tough opening hole helped club captain Carol Paterson to third place on 36 points, edging Sandy Chisholm into fourth after he also finished on 36.

Ian Ross took home the nearest-the-pin prize courtesy of the sponsors.

This Saturday will see the women competing in round three of their Winter Stableford competition, while the men will be hunting birdies in round three of their Winter Eclectic.
