The curtain came down on Thurso Bowling Club’s competitive play with the Floodlit Pairs and the rearranged Fraser Round-Robin Triples titles being decided.

The Floodlit Pairs took place during the week and saw Janet Sinclair and Peter Knapp play John Harris and Douglas Morrison reach the final on Friday night. In a high-quality game the scores were tied at eight each after 12 ends but John and Douglas managed to pick up three shots over the closing three ends to lift the trophy by 11 shots to nine.

Saturday saw the rearranged Fraser Round-Robin Triples, sponsored by Fraser’s supermarket, take to the green with 14 triples in two groups of seven.

Group A winners Joan Bridge, Danny Taylor and Alan Morrison get the verdict over Group B runners-up Mike Windsor, Liam MacKay and Ewan Morrison.

Joining them in the final were the Group B winners Robert Bell, Ross Cowan and Marina Bain who were fortunate to come through their semi-final against Fiona Rollinson, Charlie Smith and Stephen Rollinson when Stephen was slightly overweight and moved the jack to hand the tie to his opposition.

Marina and company took an early lead in the final, going six shots up after three ends, but Alan and his team battled back to level it at six apiece after six ends. Robert, Ross and Marina held their nerve, though, and claimed two single shots over the closing two ends to emerge victors.

Thurso Bowling Club finished on a high on Sunday when Brian and Lorna Cormack lifted the county mixed pairs title at Wick’s St Fergus Bowling Club.

This year has been a very successful one for the club with several Scottish district winners going on to represent the club in the national finals and the ladies' Top Ten team reaching the semi-finals of the national championships. Thurso also regained the Munro Shield and claimed four out of the five county championships.
