Gary Manson was pleased with the sharpness shown by his players as Wick Academy eased to a 6-0 victory over Thurso in a friendly at Harmsworth Park on Tuesday night.

Richard Macadie scored twice, the first one coming from the penalty spot, while Davie Allan also helped himself to a double. Ross Allan and Craig Gunn got the others as the Scorries continued their preparations for the delayed start to the Highland League campaign.

"It was a good victory," manager Manson said. "The boys were looking sharp, we were on top for the whole game, so I couldn't have asked for any more from them."

Thurso manager Stevie Reid said the result was less important than getting game time for some of his players.

“The score was irrelevant," he said. "You want to put a good show on, but we tried a couple of different things."

Reid was surprised at how soft the Wick playing surface was.

"It's the softest I've ever seen the Harmsworth in all the years I've been going there," he said. "It looked like a lovely covering of grass when we drove in but it was really, really soft. I feel sorry for the groundsman – he will have his work cut out today.

"Underfoot it was really heavy going and some of our younger boys could feel they were getting a bit leggy, especially after a hard game on Saturday."
