Manager says Wick Academy got what they deserved after heavy defeat
MANAGER Gary Manson says Wick Academy got what they deserved as they were hammered by Brora Rangers 5-0 in their Highland League clash at Dudgeon Park on Wednesday night.
The Scorries were left reeling as Mark Nicolson broke the deadlock after two minutes and goals from George Robesten and Colin Williamson made it 3-0 at half time.
Robesten scored his second goal with 12 minutes remaining before Ryan McRitchie made it 5-0 six minutes from time to complete a miserable night for Wick.
Manson said he had no complaints about the scoreline, admitting that his team underperformed at Dudgeon Park on Wednesday night.
He said: “To be honest, it is what we deserved.
“It was a poor performance from us in every aspect of the game.
We didn’t defend or keep the ball properly. We didn’t create enough chances either.
“It was night and day from how we operated in the cup game against them a couple of weeks ago.
“Every time Brora put the ball into the box it looked like they were going to get a goalscoring opportunity from it.
“Three of their goals came from crosses into the box and the other two came from George Robesten on loan from Ross County, who looked like he is a level above Highland League.
“Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and admit that we were well beaten by a team who are flying high and will look like having a good season.
“I know we are not a big side and Brora had a back four that were over six foot who are aggressive in the air who were going to cause us problems.
“But it was the manner of it where we gave them free headers and didn’t get close to them to put them under pressure”
Wick Academy will look to turn things around on Saturday when they travel to Mosset Park to face Forres Mechanics.
The Can Cans are in eighth place after beating Huntly 4-3 at Christie Park on Wednesday night.
Manson will be looking for a response from his players after a heavy defeat at Dudgeon Park.
He said: “We have a reasonable size squad this season and players will return for Saturday.
“We will make a few changes and see where that will take us.”
Wick Academy are set to welcome back a number of players who were missing in the defeat to Brora Rangers on Wednesday night.
Rob Maclean, Owen Rendall, Callum Jessiman, George Ewing and Richard Macadie are all set to return to the squad for the trip to Mosset Park.
