Some inclement weather including Storm Bert meant golfers at Reay had limited opportunities for competitive action, but the men were able to play in round two of their Winter Eclectic competition on Sunday.

Leslie Malcolm fired an excellent round of 80, made up of halves of 41 and 39, to take victory on the day with a nett score of 66.

Donald Mowat took second place ahead of Steve Efemey on countback after both fired rounds of nett 67. Mowat’s tally came after a round of 85 made up of halves of 41 and 44, while a birdie at the long fourth hole helped Efemey to a gross score of 80.

A birdie at the 15th helped Andy Bain to the lowest gross score of the day in the shape of a fine round of 79, made up of contrasting halves of 43 and a blistering inward 36, giving him a nett score of 68.

Halves of 42 and 45 gave Murdo Macdonald a score of 87 to match Bain’s tally of nett 68.

This weekend will see the women and men competing in a Red Tee Stableford competition on Saturday, while on Sunday the course hosts the North Golf Winter Alliance.

The previous week, David Joel secured victory at the North Winter Golf Alliance fixture at Golspie. The Brora member was tied on 67 with clubmate Ross Naismith but took the victory thanks to a better inward half.

Robert MacDonald (Brora) claimed victory in category one with a nett 70 and Gary Pullen (Golspie) won the category two section with a nett 65.

Wick’s Fiona Harper was the ladies' winner with a nett score of 78, one ahead of Laura Durrand (Thurso) and Dee Macangus (Wick).
