The Dave Lyall Memorial Trophy was contested at Thurso Golf Club on Saturday and the early starters enjoyed the best of the weather.

Gary Leonard (handicap 17) reached the turn in six over par, helped by a birdie at the eighth. He parred the 10th and the 18th to return a nett 65 and to lift the trophy.

Allan Craigie (20) had birdies at the first, 13th and 18th as he returned a nett 66. The 10 at the seventh proved his undoing.

Donald Bain (17) had a return to form as he also finished on nett 66.

Mick Ross (15) has been hitting the ball with the best of them since he shortened his back swing and he birdied the sixth to finish fourth with a nett 67.

Jocky Begg (11) finished with a nett 69 alongside Clark Grant (25) and Steven Macdonald (15)

The A&A Mackay-sponsored summer league is getting down to the closing stages as round 14 was played on Thursday. Stephen King (16) reached the turn in 21 points and could afford a no-score at the 13th as he won with 38 points.

Graeme Henderson (6) was two over par on the 16th tee only to finish with 37 points for second place. Andrew Main (7) and Jordan Youngson (7) both had 36 points.
